Fatal Car Accidents in Alabama
Hundreds of lives are lost annually as a result of automobile accidents in the state of Alabama. Unfortunately, there are many instances where people lose their lives as a result of driver negligence.
Speeding is a major problem on Alabama roads. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drivers who are speeding are a contributing factor in nearly one-third of all fatal car accidents in Alabama each year. Speeding makes it more difficult for drivers to control their vehicles and increases the chances of an accident occurring.
Impaired driving is another common factor in fatal car crashes in Alabama. Drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs are much more likely to be involved in an accident than those who are not impaired. Nearly 30 percent of all fatal crashes that take place in Alabama are a result of impaired drivers.
Distracted driving is also a major problem on Alabama roads. Distracted drivers are those who are not paying attention to the road because they are focused on something else, such as their cell phone or GPS device. Distracted driving was a contributing factor in nearly 10% of all fatal car accidents in Alabama in 2017.
