Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Alabama
Each year, countless innocent people die as a result of pedestrian crashes that take place in the state of Alabama. In many cases, these accidents are caused by motorists who act negligently while operating their vehicles.
Speed limit laws are designed to protect everyone on the road, including pedestrians. When a driver is speeding, they are more likely to lose control of their vehicle and cause an accident. Speeding also reduces the amount of time a driver has to react to an unexpected situation, such as a pedestrian stepping into the road.
Distracted driving is another major contributor to pedestrian collisions in our state. Drivers who are texting, talking on the phone, or even failing to pay attention to the road are more likely to hit a pedestrian. Pedestrians are often less visible than other vehicles on the road, so it’s important for drivers to be aware of their surroundings at all times.
Finally, drivers who fail to yield can also be responsible for pedestrian accidents. If a driver fails to yield at a crosswalk or intersection, they may hit a pedestrian who has the right-of-way. Drivers should always be cautious when approaching crosswalks and intersections and yield to pedestrians when necessary.
